Caledonia, the county seat, lies nestled in the center of beautiful Bluff Country. Designated "The Wild Turkey Capital of Minnesota" and "The Heart of Quilt Country," the Caledonia area is home to trout streams, snowmobile trails, horseback riding, hiking, and biking trails.
Parks & Playgrounds
Beaver Creek Valley State Park
Beaver Creek Valley State Park streams are home to brown and native brook trout, and are fed by the “Big Spring.” The hiking trails are great for wildflower enthusiasts and birdwatchers alike (migratory songbirds like the rare Acadian flycatcher, Cerulean warbler, and Louisiana waterthrush nest here). Gazebo Park
Small park located directly behind the City Hall and Auditorium, the Gazebo Park boasts a pretty gazebo and a small playground. Located at East Lincoln Street, between Marshall and Pine. 231 E. Lincoln St.
North Park
Located on the north edge of Caledonia, at the intersection of North Kingston Street and Highway 44/76. Small playground, shelter with picnic tables, shady green space, and tourist information available here.
Veteran's Memorial Park & Aquatic Center
Located on the north end of Caledonia on East High St between North Badger and North Winnebago Streets, the Veteran's Memorial Park is comprised of ample picnic space, a large, contemporary playground, an enclosed shelter available for rentals, and an outdoor swimming pool.
Recreation
Ball Park Located across the street from the Veteran's Memorial Park, this lighted ball field includes a baseball field and football field, as well as pickle ball and tennis courts. In the winter, a small ice rink is created here and manned by volunteers.
Caledonia Aquatic Center Located on the north end of Caledonia on East High St between North Badger and North Winnebago Streets, an outdoor swimming pool opens in the summer for swimming lessons and public swimming. 521 N Winnebago St. (507)-725-2079

Houston County Fair
Caledonia is home to the Houston County Fair, one of the biggest county fairs in Minnesota! Held every August, the Houston County Fair celebrates summer with carnival rides, animal shows, demo derbies, truck and tractor pulls, pie and cookie contests, petting zoo, and more! Caledonia has an outdoor swimming pool, large city playground, and picnic area for summer fun with the kids!
Ma Cal Grove Country Club

Barn Quilt Tours
Caledonia was pronounced "The Heart of Quilt Country," and for good reason! Beautiful barn quilts dot the landscape, making a tour of the area's country roads a fun excursion. In October (and again in December each year) Caledonia hosts a fun hot air balloon rally. Balloons launch at least three times during the weekend (weather-permitting), and balloon rides are available for purchase. Even just watching them launch is a fun event! Winter Hot Air Balloon Rally
The first weekend in December each year, Caledonia hosts a fun hot air balloon rally. Balloons launch at least three times during the weekend (weather-permitting), and balloon rides are available for purchase. Even just watching them launch is a fun event! On Friday evening, the balloonists participate in the Christmas night parade, "warming" up parade-goers with their basket blasts! Follow their Facebook page for details.
Ice Skating
Caledonia maintains an ice skating rink during the winter, near the municipal pool grounds. The warming house is staffed by volunteers, weather-permitting.
Winter Wonderland Celebration
On the first weekend in December, Caledonia celebrates the season with a Christmas parade on Friday night (featuring hot air balloon baskets in the parade that warm up the crowd!), hot air balloon rally, breakfast with Santa, "Old-fashioned Christmas Open House" at the Houston County Historical Society, and more!
